Synopsis:

THE NEW CHORDS, a mixed show choir, has entertained audiences in the Denver and Front Range area for over 25 years! Our lively shows encompass music for Broadway to opera, Spirituals to Jazz, Big Band Swing to music from the 50’s and 60’s. Music is memorized for most concerts so that we can do some light choreography. Ladies outfits are provided (2 styles) and Men wear tuxedos (their own) with Red show vests provided.

Rehearsals are held on Monday evenings at Central Christian Church – So. Cherry Creek Dr. and Alameda. Starting in September and running through the first week in May. (This depends on gig requests) We perform at Assisted Living facilities and private parties, banquets, Pioneers Club.

The New Chords, are a non-profit singing group which has been performing in the Denver area for over 25 years. They have performed at the Governor's and Phipps mansions, the Museum of Natural History, shopping malls, churches, retirement centers and nursing homes and in Denver's premier hotels, restaurants and country clubs. The group includes professionals from all walks of life, such as Lawyers, Doctors, Engineers and Educators. The New Chords are proud to have represented Colorado at the 1998 American Festival of Music in Austria. We performed for European audiences in Prague, Vienna, Graz and Budapest.

The ensemble is composed of 20 singers, 5 in each section plus our Director/performer and our Piano accompanist. The music is varied and might be characterized as "Pop" or Showtunes, although we often sing any music style you can think of, including classical and religious. To improve our entertainment value, most of our performances are memorized and choreographed. The New Chords' singing season starts in September and ends in May.

Our Director

Liana Lansing, B.M., M.M., musical director of the New Chords, boasts an extensive background as performer and conductor. She has sung professionally with the New York City, Central City, and Santa Fe Operas, the National Chorale (NYC), and the Desert Chorale (Santa Fe). Ms. Lansing toured Europe, Russia, Romania, Scandinavia, Australia, China, and Japan with the Rocky Mountain Singers, directed (for over 25 years) by her father, the late Robert Lansing.

Ms. Lansing received BM and MM degrees in Voice from the New England Conservatory of Music (Boston) and recently completed a second MM in Choral Conducting at C.U., Boulder. She also directs the GAL-axies women's chorus. Recently Ms. Lansing was appointed director of SHIR AMI, a group specializing in Jewish/ethnic folk song.

In addition to all of the above, Ms. Lansing teaches voice privately.

Our Accompanist

Edwina Rose Garten has been sharpening her musical talents with vocal groups since sixth grade. In addition to serving as accompanist for the New Chords she has also served as the organist at Christ Congergational Church. Edwina accompanied the Mountain Bell/US West Singers for 26 years and numerous other musical touring groups around the world. She teaches piano, is an adjunctor for the National Guild of Piano Teachers and is active in many professional music organizations. She graduated Cum Laude from Loretto Heights College and debuted with the Denver Symphony Orchestra in her junior year of college.
